Google is delivering some major Android Auto updates over the course of 2026, including support for video apps and new Gemini features. Video apps are officially heading to Android Auto this year. Starting with apps “like YouTube,” Android Auto will support 60fps, FHD video apps in “supported cars” starting later this year. Specific models aren’t mentioned, but Google says the list will start with vehicles from BMW, Ford, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Škoda, Tata and Volvo. As previously announced, video apps on Android Auto will support an audio-only mode that kicks in when the vehicle shifts from park to drive. Google has already launched this audio-only mode on YouTube, at least in a limited capacity. Android Auto is further expanding audio too, with support for Dolby Atmos in “supported apps and cars,” which includes vehicles from BMW, Genesis, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Škoda, Tata and Volvo.
